Ringier and Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland to offer four weeks’ paternity leave

Ringier and its subsidiary Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland have decided to go beyond the minimum legal requirement for paternity leave, and will now be granting its employees a period of 20 days. This increase and the resulting improvement in work/life balance is part of the ‘Diversity & Inclusion Strategy’ drawn up by the Diversity & Inclusion Board, which was launched in the summer.

Male employees of Ringier and Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland will receive four weeks of paternity leave as of January 2021. The companies’ maternity leave already goes beyond the minimum legal requirement, offering new mothers 16 weeks of fully paid leave, and parents are also offered support with childcare.

The Diversity & Inclusion Board was launched at the end of August with the aim of firmly establishing diversity and inclusion as a part of corporate culture and everyday working life at Ringier and Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland. ‘The increased paternity leave will enable us to strengthen our position as a family-friendly employer that promotes a healthy work/life balance and makes an active contribution to gender equality,’ says Susanne Jud, Chief People Officer at Ringier. Longer paternity leave is significant in that scientific studies have shown that more time spent between father and child contributes significantly to gender equality between the parents.

Diversity as an opportunity

‘Our employees reflect the diversity of society itself. Everyone is welcome here, regardless of gender, origin or nationality, sexual orientation, religion or physical characteristics. With a view to reinforcing and maintaining diversity, we make sure to continuously question and improve our existing measures,’ says Patricia Franzoni, Head HR at Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland. Ringier and Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland see themselves as companies in which being different is par for the course. They create a working environment in which people can offer new and valuable perspectives through their individual skills and life experience. This approach was incorporated directly in the development of the Diversity & Inclusion strategy, a process in which employees were actively involved.

The Diversity & Inclusion Board consists of the three members of the Ringier Group Executive Board, Annabella Bassler, Ladina Heimgartner, Alexander Theobald, as well as Susanne Jud (Chief People Officer), Axel Konjack (International Marketplaces), Christian Dorer (Blick Group) and Patricia Franzoni (HR Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland AG).
